Deep Creek State Park - Located just on the other side of Deep Creek Lake from the Mchenry area this park is only 25 minutes from Friendsville. One of the largest parks in the area with access to Deep Creek Lake for swimming, fishing, and boat launching. This is a great place for the whole family to stay with big playgrounds, lots of hiking trails, and a Mt bike trail that interconnects with New Germany State Park on the Meadow mountain trail. 301 387 4111
Cheat Canyon Campgrounds - The Cheat Canyon Campgrounds is located in Albright WV about 25 minutes from Friendsville. The campground has large flat areas for great tent sites, and plenty room for RV's. The owners are super nice and run an extremely clean place. Hot Showers and fire wood on site. Some great Mt biking near by and a long stretch of the WV trail is right there too. Hike along the river are just sit and chill by the water. Cooper's Rock State Park - This park is located about 25 minutes west of Friendsville, right off of I 68. It is also about the same distance to Albright WV. The park has some great Mt Biking and the best rock climbing in the region. The campsites are located in a beautiful pine forest, and some sites are suitable for RV's. It is very close to Cheat Lake for swimming and power boating. 304 594 1561
Herrington Manor State Park - Located near Oakland Md it is about 35 minutes from Friendsville. This park has some nice rustic cabins with fireplaces, for the cool nights. Set in a peaceful quiet pine forest Herrington Manor is a very special place. They have some really good Mt biking trails and a small lake for fishing and swimming. With the interconnect trail to Swallow Falls SP it's like two parks in one. 301 334 9180
New Germany State Park - Located east of Friendsville near Grantsville MD. This park is about 25 minutes away from Friendsville. This is one of the oldest state parks in the area. It is not far off the interstate 68. There are rustic log cabins for rent. The park has lots of great Mt biking and hiking trails. They also have a small lake for swimming, fishing, and flat water paddling. 301 895 5453
Swallow Falls State Park - The park is located about 25 minutes from Friendsville. Swallow Falls State Park is right on the Youghiogheny river, along the Top Yough section. It is a very beautiful park with virgin hemlock forests. The park has some great hiking, with a nature trail that goes to Muddy creek falls, the highest water fall in Maryland. There is also and interconnect trail for biking and hiking with Herrington Manor State Park. 301 387 6938
Pine Hill Campground -Located in Hazelton WV Pine Hill is right in the middle between the Cheat river Put-in and the Upper Yough Take-out. About 15 minutes from either place. A large private campground that is nestled in a beautiful pine forest. There are small private tent sites, Group sites, Rv hook ups, and plywood shelters for those who don't want the tent expereince. Lots of woods and great campsites so it is a good place to stay for either trip. There is also Mt biking and hiking close by and on site. 304 379 4612
